The 550 W plate was once sold by almost every brand in Pakistan, from Jinko and Canadian Solar to local names like Inverex and Crown. The market has now moved to N-type panels of 580 W and above, and most 550 W Mono PERC models are discontinued; what is left is old stock, mainly Jinko Tiger Pro. That is why the solar panel 550 watt price in Pakistan today varies a lot between shops. The dated table above lists the live rate. Below you will find what separates those brands, how many plates a home needs, and how a 550 W Mono PERC plate holds up against the newer N-type sizes.
The lowest A-grade 550 W rate on our sheet right now is Rs 20,900, or Rs 38 per watt.

550 watt solar panel specifications
A 550 W panel is the top power bin of the 144-cell Mono PERC generation. The international brands publish full datasheets; use them as your reference when a dealer offers a plate with a thinner spec sheet.
| Spec (maker datasheet) | Jinko Tiger Pro JKM550M-72HL4 | Canadian HiKu6 CS6W-550MS | JA Solar JAM72S30-550/MR |
|---|---|---|---|
| Size | 2274 × 1134 × 35 mm | 2261 × 1134 × 35 mm | 2278 × 1134 × 35 mm |
| In feet | 7.46 × 3.72 ft | 7.42 × 3.72 ft | 7.47 × 3.72 ft |
| Weight | 28.9 kg | 27.8 kg | 28.1 kg |
| Voc | 49.62 V | 49.6 V | 49.90 V |
| Isc | 14.03 A | 14.00 A | 14.00 A |
| Vmp / Imp | 40.90 V / 13.45 A | 41.7 V / 13.20 A | 41.96 V / 13.11 A |
| Efficiency | 21.33% | 21.5% | 21.3% |
| Power temp. coefficient | -0.35%/°C | -0.34%/°C | -0.35%/°C |
| Cells | 144 half-cut mono PERC | 144 half-cut mono PERC | 144 half-cut mono PERC |
The three are almost interchangeable electrically: within 0.3 V and 0.03 A of each other on open circuit. The real difference is length. Canadian’s HiKu6 is 17 mm shorter than JA’s, which matters only if you are slotting plates into an existing structure.
What “550 W” means on a real roof
The 550 W figure is measured in a lab at 25°C cell temperature and full-strength sunlight. Your roof never sees those exact conditions.
- On a clear spring morning in Islamabad, a clean 550 W plate may briefly touch 480 to 500 W.
- On a 40°C June afternoon in Multan, with cells around 65°C, the same plate gives roughly 14% less than its label from heat alone.
- With a thin layer of dust, take off a few percent more.
- Through winter haze in Lahore, midday output can sit at half the label or less.
That is normal, and it is already built into the unit figures further down. If a seller promises “550 W all day”, they are describing the label, not the roof.
International brand or local brand?
Inverex and Crown both used to sell 550 W mono plates under their own names in Pakistan, and both have now moved to larger N-type panels. A local brand is not automatically worse, but it changes what you should ask for.
| Question | International brand (Jinko, Canadian, JA) | Local brand (Inverex, Crown and others) |
|---|---|---|
| Datasheet | Published by the factory, with model code | Ask for it; check it names the cell type and test standard |
| Who honours the warranty | The maker via its authorised distributor | The local brand owner |
| Serial verification | Often possible through the maker or distributor | Through the brand’s own office |
| Spare or matching plates later | Same model usually available for years | Depends on the brand’s import cycle |
Whichever you choose, the warranty is only as good as the company that issues the card. Live brand rates, with the current replacement where the 550 W is no longer sold:
| Brand | Live price (550 W, or the brand’s current panel) | Price per watt |
|---|---|---|
| Jinko | Rs 20,900 | Rs 38 |
| Canadian | HiKu6 550 W hard to find; TOPBiHiKu6 585 W: Rs 25,155 | Rs 43 |
| Inverex | 550 W discontinued; Mustang 585 W: Rs 24,280 | Rs 41.5 |
| Crown | 550 W discontinued; N-type 585 W: Rs 23,400 | Rs 40 |
For more on the international names, see the Jinko solar panel price and LONGi solar panel price pages.
550 W vs nearby wattages: which should you buy?
550 W sits between the older 545 W PERC bin and the 580 W N-type plates that have replaced it on most new jobs.
| 545 W | 550 W | 580 W | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cheapest A-grade | Rs 21,255 | Rs 20,900 | Rs 24,505 |
| Price per watt | Rs 39 | Rs 38 | Rs 42.3 |
| Cell type | Mono PERC | Mono PERC | N-type |
| Panel length | 2256–2278 mm | 2261–2278 mm | 2278 mm |
| Panels for 5 kW | 10 | 10 | 9 |
How we would decide:
- Compare price per watt first. If 550 W is more than about 5% cheaper per watt than 580 W, it is a sound budget choice.
- If the gap is smaller, take 580 W. You get one plate fewer for 5 kW, better heat performance and a longer power warranty. Our 580 watt solar panel price page has the details.
- Between 545 W and 550 W, just take the cheaper per watt. They are the same generation. The 545 watt page covers the LONGi Hi-MO 5 old stock at that bin.
If your roof is short, or the plates must be carried up a narrow staircase, the 7.4-foot length of a 550 W plate can be the problem rather than its price. The shorter 66-cell plates on our 500 watt solar panel price page are about 6.9 feet long and a couple of kilos lighter, at the cost of a few more plates per kW.
Working out cost per unit yourself
Price per plate hides the real picture. Here is a quick way to compare any two quotes:
- Take the price per watt from the table above for each option.
- Multiply by 1,000 to get the panel cost per kW.
- Divide by the units one kW makes in your city over 25 years (about 1,560 a year in Islamabad for this kind of plate, times 25, less roughly 8% average for ageing).
- The lower answer is the cheaper panel per unit, before inverter and structure.
It sounds like a lot of arithmetic, but it shows quickly when a “cheaper” plate is not cheaper at all.
How many 550 W panels for 3, 5 and 10 kW (with price)
| System | 550 W plates | DC size | Plate cost at the cheapest rate | Roof needed (with gaps) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 kW | 6 | 3.30 kW | Rs 125,400 | about 210 sq ft |
| 5 kW | 10 | 5.50 kW | Rs 209,000 | about 345 sq ft |
| 10 kW | 19 | 10.45 kW | Rs 397,100 | about 655 sq ft |
Roof area here includes roughly 25% extra for row gaps and walkways around plates of about 27.6 sq ft each.
Example: a 5.5 kW system in Rawalpindi
Take a family in a 10-marla house in Rawalpindi with an average bill of about 550 units a month, rising to 900 in July.
- Average target: 550 ÷ 71 is about 8 plates. They go for 10 plates (5.5 kW) to cover more of summer.
- Summer output of 10 plates: about 880 units in a hot month, which covers most of July.
- Winter output: about 480 units, so December still has a small grid bill.
- Inverter: a 6 kW hybrid with two MPPTs, because the roof is split by the stair tower.
- Battery: optional; useful only if load-shedding in their sector is regular.
Sizing from your bill instead
A better method than picking 3, 5 or 10 kW is to start from your units. Using Islamabad output for a 550 W plate (about 71 units a month on average, about 48 in a winter month):
| Monthly units you want to cover | Plates for the yearly average | Plates to cover winter too |
|---|---|---|
| 300 units | 5 | 7 |
| 500 units | 8 | 11 |
| 800 units | 12 | 17 |
Most people size for the average and accept a bigger bill in December and January. Under net billing, oversizing to cover winter fully means exporting a lot of cheap units in summer, so the middle column is usually the smarter target.
How many units does a 550 watt panel produce in Pakistan?
Here is the daily output of one 550 W plate by season, from long-term solar data for each city with about 22% off for losses. The north gets more summer sun but suffers more from winter fog and haze.
| City | Summer | Autumn | Winter | Spring | Yearly total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Islamabad / Rawalpindi | 2.9 units/day | 2.1 | 1.6 | 2.7 | about 860 |
| Peshawar | 3.4 units/day | 2.3 | 1.7 | 2.9 | about 935 |
| Lahore | 2.7 units/day | 2.1 | 1.5 | 2.8 | about 830 |
| Multan | 2.9 units/day | 2.2 | 1.7 | 2.9 | about 875 |
So a 10-plate (5.5 kW) system in Islamabad gives about 8,600 units a year: roughly 880 in a summer month and 480 in a winter month. Peshawar does better in summer but drops almost as hard in winter.
Why winter hurts so much in Punjab and the Potohar region:
- Shorter days and a lower sun angle
- Morning fog that can last until late morning in December and January
- Smog that cuts light even on “clear” days
- Dust and soot that settle on the glass faster when there is no rain
A steeper tilt (around 30° in Islamabad) helps winter output a little. Washing the plates every week in the smog season helps more.
What can a 550 watt solar panel run?
A 550 W PERC plate at midday delivers roughly 400 to 450 W of usable AC power. Here is how a 10-marla home in Rawalpindi might use a 10-plate system.
| Appliance | Running watts | Plates it needs at midday |
|---|---|---|
| 1.5 ton inverter AC (hot afternoon) | about 1,000–1,400 W | 3 |
| 1 ton inverter AC | about 700–1,000 W | 2 |
| 1 HP water motor | about 750 W, more at start | 2 (plus inverter surge headroom) |
| Inverter fridge + deep freezer | about 250 W average | 1 |
| 8 ceiling fans (AC type) | about 650 W | 1.5 |
| Lights, TV, router, chargers | about 250 W | 0.5–1 |
That adds up to the full ten plates with every load running at once, which is rare. In practice the AC and the motor do not run together all day, so a 10-plate system covers a family’s daytime use from March to October and part of it in winter.
The motor deserves a special note. A water motor’s starting current can be several times its running current. If it trips your inverter, ask for a soft starter or a motor-rated inverter rather than more panels.
Best inverter for 550 W panels
Many houses in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Lahore have roofs split by a stairwell or water tanks, so the plates end up facing two directions. That is where an inverter with two MPPTs earns its price.
| Roof layout | Inverter setup | Strings of 550 W plates |
|---|---|---|
| Single south-facing block | 1 MPPT is enough | one string of 9–10 on a 500–600 V input |
| East and west blocks | 2 MPPTs, one per direction | 5 east + 5 west |
| South block plus a small shaded patch | 2 MPPTs | 7 south + 3 on the shaded side |
| Large roof, three-phase supply | 10 kW three-phase on-grid, 2 MPPTs | two strings of 9–10 |
String limits for 550 W PERC plates:
- Voc is about 49.6 to 49.9 V at 25°C and roughly 53 V on a 0°C morning.
- On a 500 V input, keep strings at 9 plates or fewer.
- On a 1000 V input, up to 18.
- Isc is 14.0 A; check each MPPT is rated for it.
Adding a battery to a 550 W system
With net billing, more buyers now add batteries to store midday units for the evening. Rough guide for a home system:
| Panels | Daily units (Islamabad average) | Sensible lithium battery size |
|---|---|---|
| 6 × 550 W | about 14 | 5 kWh |
| 10 × 550 W | about 23 | 5–10 kWh |
| 19 × 550 W | about 45 | 10–15 kWh |
The battery should hold what you use after sunset, not everything the panels make. Most homes use a third or less of their daily units after dark.
If you have long load-shedding, a hybrid inverter with a battery keeps fans and lights running. If supply is steady and the house is busy during the day, on-grid gives the cheapest units.
Buying tips before you pay
Most 550 W plates on sale now are old stock, so the checks below matter more than at any other wattage.
- Ask for the datasheet of the exact model, especially for a local brand. It should list cell type, dimensions, Voc, Isc and the test standards.
- Compare the label on the plate with the datasheet: wattage, Voc, Isc and model code must match.
- Ask who gives the warranty card and where their office is. A card from a shop that closes next year is worth nothing.
- Check the frame length if you are adding to an older structure: 2261, 2274 and 2278 mm plates do not share clamp positions exactly.
- Do not mix brands in one string even at the same wattage. Keep each brand on its own MPPT.
- Inspect every carton at delivery for cracked glass or a loose junction box.
- Get a proper bill showing brand, model, serial numbers, quantity and date.
Signs a plate may not be what the label says
- The back label looks freshly stuck over another one, or the print is blurry.
- The serial on the label does not match the serial on the frame or carton.
- The weight is well below the datasheet figure; a 550 W plate should be close to 28 kg.
- The junction box is a different style from the maker’s photos.
- The dealer cannot give you the datasheet or the distributor’s name.
Any one of these is a reason to stop and check before paying.

Frequently asked questions
What is the 550 watt solar panel price in Pakistan today?
The cheapest A-grade 550 watt panel on our sheet is Rs 20,900 as of 9 Oct 2026. Most 550 W models are now discontinued and what is left is mainly Jinko Tiger Pro old stock, so compare it per watt with 585 W N-type panels before you buy.
Which brand is best for a 550 watt solar panel?
Jinko's Tiger Pro, Canadian's HiKu6 and JA's JAM72S30 are electrically almost identical at 550 W, but the Canadian and JA versions are now hard to find, and Inverex and Crown have moved to larger N-type panels. In practice most 550 W stock today is Jinko Tiger Pro, so choose on price per watt and on who stands behind the warranty.
Is a 550 watt panel Mono PERC or N-type?
Nearly all 550 W panels in Pakistan are Mono PERC with 144 half-cut cells. N-type panels mostly start at 580 W and lose less power in summer heat.
How many 550 watt panels do I need for 5 kW?
Ten panels of 550 W give 5.5 kW. For 10 kW you need 19, which gives 10.45 kW.
How many units does a 550 watt solar panel produce in Islamabad?
About 2.35 units a day on average, or roughly 860 units a year. Expect around 1.6 units a day in winter and close to 3 in summer.
What is the size and weight of a 550 watt solar panel?
Most 550 W plates are 2261 to 2278 mm long and 1134 mm wide, about 7.4 to 7.5 by 3.7 feet, and weigh about 28 to 29 kg.
Can a 550 watt panel run a water motor?
One panel cannot start and run a 1 HP motor on its own. Plan on two plates for the motor plus an inverter with enough surge capacity, or a solar pump drive.
Should I buy 550 W or 580 W panels?
If 550 W is clearly cheaper per watt, it is a good budget choice. If the difference is small, 580 W N-type plates give more units in summer, need one fewer plate for 5 kW and carry longer power warranties.
