The solar panel price in Karachi usually sits a little below the rest of the country, because most imported panels land at Karachi’s port and reach local shops before they are trucked north. The rate table above tracks today’s wholesale-linked prices. Below we cover what those prices mean for a full system, how K-Electric’s net billing works, how much a Karachi roof really produces, and what the sea air does to your panels.

Solar panel markets in Karachi and the solar panel price Karachi buyers see
Karachi has two kinds of sellers: wholesale traders who sell plates by the pallet, and installers who sell a finished system. The Regal Chowk area of Saddar has been described in the business press as the city’s largest solar panel market. Traders there buy close to the importers, so a price change at the port tends to show up on Saddar counters before it reaches the rest of the city.
Beyond Saddar, you will find panels in electronics markets across the city and with installers in every big residential area. Their plate price is normally a little higher than the wholesale counter, because delivery, warranty handling and a margin are built in.
| Where you buy | What you get | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Wholesale counter in Saddar | Lowest plate price, full pallets, fresh stock | You arrange transport, testing and installation yourself |
| Electronics markets in other areas | Smaller quantities, mixed brands | Older stock and B-grade plates mixed in |
| Installer or EPC company | Panels, inverter, structure, fitting and paperwork in one quote | Brand swaps between quote and delivery |
| Online classifieds | Used or surplus panels | No warranty, no way to check flash test reports |
If you are looking for the solar panel wholesale market in Karachi to save money, buy at least a full set (for example nine or ten plates for a 5 kW system) and ask for the flash test sheet and serial numbers on the invoice. Today the cheapest 585 W A-grade plate is listed at Rs 23,400, and the market average works out to Rs 41.3 per watt.

Checking a plate before you pay
Saddar counters move fast, and buyers are often handed whatever is on top of the stack. Take five minutes at the counter:
- Match the label on the back (model, wattage, serial) with the box and the invoice.
- Look along the frame for bends and along the glass edge for chips; both happen in rough unloading.
- Ask for the flash test report for your serials. A real one lists the measured power of each plate.
- Use the maker’s own verification page or app where one exists, before you leave the shop.
For brand-by-brand rates see our 585 watt solar panel price page and the Jinko solar panel price in Pakistan page, since Jinko is the brand Karachi buyers ask about most.
Solar system installation cost in Karachi
Panels are only part of the bill. A Karachi quote also covers the inverter, a mounting structure that can survive coastal wind, DC and AC cabling, breakers, earthing and labour. The panel cost below is live; the other items are market ranges we checked as of October 2026, and they move less often.
| Item | 3 kW | 5 kW | 10 kW |
|---|---|---|---|
| Panels (585 W, cheapest A-grade) | 6 plates, Rs 140,400 | 9 plates, Rs 210,600 | 18 plates, Rs 421,200 |
| Inverter (budget hybrid to branded) | Rs 65,000 to 1,50,000 | Rs 95,000 to 2,60,000 | Rs 2,00,000 to 3,80,000 |
| Galvanised or aluminium structure | Rs 15,000 to 30,000 | Rs 25,000 to 50,000 | Rs 50,000 to 90,000 |
| Cables, breakers, SPD, earthing | Rs 10,000 to 20,000 | Rs 18,000 to 30,000 | Rs 35,000 to 60,000 |
| Installation labour | Rs 15,000 to 25,000 | Rs 20,000 to 35,000 | Rs 40,000 to 60,000 |
Batteries are extra. A single 5 kWh lithium pack often costs as much as the inverter itself, so most Karachi homes on stable feeders skip batteries and run a hybrid inverter that can take one later.
What pushes a Karachi quote up
- Apartment roofs: you may need the association’s written permission and a longer cable run down the shaft.
- Elevated structures: many bungalows in DHA and Clifton raise panels above the water tanks, which needs heavier steel and more anchoring.
- Salt-resistant hardware: stainless steel nuts and bolts and hot-dip galvanised channels cost more but stop rust streaks within two years.
- Three-phase upgrade: net billing needs a three-phase connection, so a single-phase house pays for that change first.

Net metering in Karachi: step by step with K-Electric
Karachi is served by K-Electric, a private utility that generates, transmits and distributes power for the city and some nearby areas of Sindh and Balochistan. Since NEPRA’s Prosumer Regulations 2026 were notified on 9 February 2026, new connections are on net billing, not the old unit-for-unit net metering. Units you import are billed at your normal tariff, and units you export are credited at the national average energy purchase price, which NEPRA sets and can revise. That rate is far below what you pay per unit, so in Karachi the real saving comes from using your solar power during the day. Agreements signed before 9 February 2026 keep their old terms until they expire.

K-Electric calls its service “Net Billing” and runs an online application and tracking portal on its website, along with downloadable guidelines, interconnection requirements and a Self-Procured Meter Policy if you want to buy your own approved meter.
- Check eligibility: you need a three-phase 400 V (or 11 kV) connection, and the solar system cannot be bigger than your sanctioned load.
- Pick a PPIB-certified vendor (AEDB’s certification work now sits with PPIB). K-Electric lists three categories: C-3 up to 250 kW, C-2 up to 500 kW and C-1 above that.
- Submit the application form on the KE portal. Expect to attach a recent bill, CNIC, proof of ownership (or the owner’s consent if you rent), a single-line diagram and the panel and inverter details.
- KE must acknowledge and confirm completeness within 5 working days, then finish a technical review within 15 working days.
- Sign the interconnection agreement (within 7 working days of approval) and pay the connection and meter estimate within 7 working days of receiving it.
- KE installs the bidirectional meter and commissions the link within 15 working days of payment.
- KE forwards your file to NEPRA, which grants its concurrence. NEPRA charges a one-time fee of Rs 1,000 per kW.
| Cost or time item | What to expect (as of October 2026) |
|---|---|
| NEPRA concurrence fee | Rs 1,000 per kW, one time |
| Meter and connection charges | Rs 15,000 to 50,000 depending on size and meter choice |
| Agreement term | 5 years, renewable by mutual consent |
| Time from application to meter | The legal deadlines add up to roughly three months of working days |
Is net billing still worth it in Karachi?
For most homes, yes, but size the system to your daytime load rather than your total bill. Air conditioners running from noon to evening in May and June soak up most of what a 5 kW roof makes, so very little goes back to KE at the low export rate.
| Household pattern | Sensible size | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Family home, AC in the afternoon, someone home all day | 5 to 6 kW | Most units are used on the spot |
| Working couple, house empty until evening | 3 to 4 kW plus a battery later | Daytime use is low, exports earn little |
| Shop or clinic open 10 am to 8 pm | Match the daytime connected load | Business hours line up with sun hours |
One Karachi-specific catch: the regulations let a utility refuse new solar on a transformer once connected solar reaches 80% of its capacity. In dense blocks where half the street has solar, ask KE about your transformer before you sign with an installer.
Sun hours and solar output in Karachi
Of the eight cities we cover, Karachi has the strongest yearly sunshine, with a planning average of about 5.6 peak sun hours. The weak months are not winter but the monsoon, when sea cloud and humidity cut output in July and August. The figures below are modelled estimates from the European Commission’s PVGIS tool (ERA5 data) for a south-facing panel at 25 degrees with 14% system losses.
| Month | Units per kW per day | Units per kW in the month |
|---|---|---|
| January | 4.9 | 153 |
| February | 5.3 | 147 |
| March | 5.3 | 164 |
| April | 5.3 | 158 |
| May | 5.0 | 155 |
| June | 4.4 | 131 |
| July | 3.8 | 117 |
| August | 3.6 | 113 |
| September | 4.4 | 131 |
| October | 4.9 | 152 |
| November | 4.9 | 146 |
| December | 4.9 | 152 |
That adds up to about 1,700 units per kW per year, so a 5 kW system makes roughly 8,500 units a year. Real roofs lose a few percent more to the salty film that builds up on glass, so wash panels with plain water every two to three weeks. Our solar panel calculator lets you plug in your own bill.
Karachi weather risks for panels
- Salt mist near the coast: ask for panels with an IEC 61701 salt-mist test on the datasheet.
- Strong pre-monsoon winds and cyclone alerts: anchor the frame to the slab, not just the parapet.
- Heat plus humidity: leave a gap under the panels so air can flow and cool them.
Load-shedding and backup in Karachi
K-Electric schedules load-shedding feeder by feeder, and feeders with high losses get longer outages. That means two houses a few kilometres apart can need very different systems.
| Your feeder | What to install | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Exempt or low-loss, rare outages | On-grid or hybrid inverter, no battery | Panels feed the house and the meter all day |
| Medium-loss, a few hours of cuts | Hybrid inverter with a small battery | Keeps fans, lights and the fridge running in cuts |
| High-loss, long daily cuts | Hybrid inverter with a larger battery bank | A grid-tied inverter switches off when KE supply drops |
Remember that an on-grid inverter shuts down during an outage for safety, even in bright sun. If you face daily cuts, a hybrid unit is worth the extra cost.
How to choose a solar installer in Karachi
Karachi has hundreds of installers, from one-van teams to large EPC firms. A cheap quote is easy to find; a team that handles the KE paperwork and comes back for warranty claims is harder.

- Is the company on PPIB’s certified installer list in the category that matches your system size?
- Will the invoice show panel brand, model, wattage and serial numbers, and the inverter model?
- Does the structure use hot-dip galvanised steel or aluminium with stainless fasteners?
- Who files the K-Electric net billing application, and is that cost in the quote?
- What is the workmanship warranty, separate from the panel and inverter warranties?
- Can you visit two of their Karachi installations that are at least two years old? Look for rust and loose clamps.
For a wider shortlist, see our guide to solar panel companies in Pakistan.
Karachi vs other cities: price difference
The same panel costs roughly the same everywhere, because brand and wattage set most of the price. Karachi’s edge is that stock arrives here first, so freight is lowest and new shipments reach shops sooner.
| Factor | Karachi | Lahore, Islamabad and up-country cities |
|---|---|---|
| Panel plate price | Usually the lowest, close to importer rate | Often slightly higher after freight from the port |
| Choice of fresh stock | Widest, new shipments land here | Depends on the dealer’s restocking |
| Structure cost | Higher if salt-resistant parts are used | Standard galvanised frames are enough |
| Yearly output per kW | About 1,700 units | About 1,580 to 1,680 units |
| Utility | K-Electric | LESCO, IESCO, MEPCO and other DISCOs |
In short, the best solar panels in Karachi are not a different product from those in Lahore. The difference is in the structure, the cleaning routine and the KE paperwork. Compare with our Lahore page or go back to the solar panel price in Pakistan home page for today’s national rates.
Frequently asked questions
What is the solar panel price in Karachi today?
The cheapest A-grade 585 W plate in Karachi is currently around Rs 20,520, and the full rate list at the top of this page is updated with the market. Karachi rates are usually the same as or slightly below other cities because imported stock lands at Karachi port first.
Where is the solar panel wholesale market in Karachi?
The Regal Chowk area of Saddar is widely known as the city's biggest solar panel market, with traders selling plates by the piece or by the pallet. Electronics markets and installers across Karachi also sell panels, usually at a small markup that covers delivery and warranty handling.
Which are the best solar panels in Karachi's coastal climate?
Any tier-1 A-grade panel works well, but near the sea pick a model whose datasheet shows the IEC 61701 salt-mist test. Pair it with a galvanised or aluminium frame and stainless fasteners so the structure does not rust before the panels age.
Does K-Electric still offer net metering?
New K-Electric connections are on net billing under NEPRA's Prosumer Regulations 2026. You pay your normal tariff for units you import and get credited at a lower NEPRA-set rate for units you export. Agreements signed before 9 February 2026 stay on their old terms until they expire.
Can I get net billing on a single-phase connection in Karachi?
No. The regulations require a three-phase 400 V or 11 kV connection, and the system cannot be larger than your sanctioned load. Many homes apply to K-Electric for a three-phase upgrade before filing the solar application.
How long does K-Electric take to install a net billing meter?
The legal deadlines for acknowledgement, technical review, agreement, payment and installation add up to roughly three months of working days. Delays usually come from missing documents, so give your installer a complete file on day one.
How much electricity does a 5 kW system produce in Karachi?
Expect about 8,500 units a year, with the best months in March and April and the lowest in July and August when monsoon cloud sets in. That works out to roughly 700 units a month on average.
Can I install solar on a flat in Karachi?
Yes, if the building association gives written permission to use roof space and run cables. Shared roofs often limit you to a small system, so a 2 to 3 kW setup is common for apartments, and net billing needs the flat to have its own three-phase connection.
