About Longi solar

LONGi Green Energy Technology was founded in 2000 in Xi’an, China. It started as a maker of mono-crystalline silicon wafers and grew into one of the world’s largest solar module manufacturers. It is a fixture on BloombergNEF’s Tier 1 list. LONGi is widely credited with pushing the industry from poly to mono silicon wafers, which is one reason the name carries weight with installers.

LONGi’s share of the Pakistani rooftop market is smaller than Jinko’s, but it is one of the brands every serious dealer stocks. Its back-contact panels are easy to recognise: the front of a Hi-MO X9, or of the older Hi-MO 6 and Hi-MO X6, has no silver lines running across the cells, because the electrical contacts are on the back.

You will meet three Longi families in Pakistani shops. Their cell technology is quite different, so it is worth knowing which is which.

What “back-contact” actually means

On most solar cells, thin silver lines (busbars and fingers) run across the front to collect current. They work, but they shade a small part of the cell. In a back-contact cell, all of that wiring moves to the rear, so the whole front surface faces the sun.

Back-contact is not magic. At 580 to 585 W the efficiency of the older Hi-MO 6 was about the same as the best TOPCon panels. Where LONGi’s design pulls ahead is in the 600 W Hi-MO X9 and in appearance.

Hi-MO 5: the older PERC workhorse

Hi-MO 5 was LONGi’s main product a few years ago. What is left now is old stock, mostly at 545 W. It is a solid mono PERC panel, about 2256 x 1133 mm and 27 kg. Its weak point for Pakistan is heat: its temperature coefficient is about -0.34%/°C, against -0.29%/°C for Hi-MO 6. Hi-MO 6: replaced by Hi-MO X7 and Hi-MO X9

Hi-MO 6 was LONGi’s main rooftop panel until it was replaced by the Hi-MO X7 and Hi-MO X9, and it is now hard to find new. It uses LONGi’s HPBC (Hybrid Passivated Back Contact) cells. Moving the contacts to the back of the cell removes the busbars that normally shade part of the front surface, so more of the cell catches light. The LR5-72HTH range covers 565 to 585 W in the standard 2278 x 1134 x 35 mm frame, weighing about 27.5 kg, with a temperature coefficient of -0.29%/°C.

Notice that Hi-MO 6 runs at a slightly higher voltage and lower current than a Jinko Tiger Neo of the same wattage (Jinko 585: Vmp 42.52 V, Imp 13.76 A). That has two practical effects. Fewer Longi plates fit in one string before you hit the inverter’s voltage limit, and the lower current is easier on inverters with modest input current ratings. Your installer should size strings with the Longi figures, not reuse a Jinko design.

Hi-MO X9: the 600 W option

Hi-MO X9 replaces the Hi-MO X6 as LONGi’s 600 W panel for homes and businesses. It uses second-generation HPBC 2.0 back-contact cells. You get 15 W more per plate than a 585, so a large system needs fewer plates. Compare all 600 W options on the 600 watt price page.

LONGi also makes Hi-MO 9, a second-generation back-contact module rated around 660 W for large projects. It is rarely used on house roofs.

How many Longi plates for a home system?

On a tight roof, the 600 W plate can save you one frame position on a 10 kW system. Whether that is worth it depends on the per-watt price difference on the day.

Longi solar panel warranty in Pakistan

LONGi’s warranty terms depend on the series, and the documents are worth reading closely. The figures below are for Hi-MO 6 and Hi-MO 5; ask the dealer for the Hi-MO X7 or Hi-MO X9 warranty document, as terms for newer series can differ.

Two things to note about Hi-MO 6:

1. Product warranty wording varies. We found a LONGi datasheet that lists 15 years for materials and processing, while the formal limited warranty for the same model lists 12 years. Treat 12 years as the safe figure and ask the dealer which document applies to your batch.
2. The power warranty is 25 years, not 30. Jinko’s Tiger Neo and JA’s DeepBlue 4.0 list 30 years. Over the first 25 years the guaranteed curves are close (LONGi 88.9% at year 25, Jinko about 89.4%), but LONGi’s guarantee simply stops five years earlier.

In Pakistan, as with every imported brand, warranty claims run through the dealer and the importer. Get every serial number on your invoice, keep a photo of each back label, and ask in writing who will handle a claim and how long a replacement takes.

Reading the warranty card

When you buy Longi, ask the dealer for the warranty document that matches your model and batch, and check four things on it:

• The model codes covered (for example LR5-72HTH-xxxM)
• The product warranty period in years
• The guaranteed output at year 1 and at the end of the power warranty
• The claim process: who you contact and what proof is required

If the dealer cannot produce any warranty document, that tells you something about his supply chain.

How to check an original Longi panel

LONGi introduced its “One Module One Code” system in 2022. Each module carries an anti-counterfeiting QR code on the nameplate. Scanning it gives access to the module type and grade, certification, electrical parameters, specifications and warranty information.

1. Scan the QR code on the nameplate with your phone camera. Check that the page that opens is on a LONGi domain (longi.com), not a look-alike.
2. Match the details on that page with the label: model code (for example LR5-72HTH-585M), power and serial number.
3. Check the label against the datasheet for that exact model: size, weight and power must all match.
4. Look at the front. Back-contact cells such as Hi-MO X9, and the older Hi-MO 6 and Hi-MO X6, look uniformly dark with no silver lines across them. A “Hi-MO 6” with busbars on the front is not a Hi-MO 6.
5. Check the price. A Longi 585 offered far below Rs 23,400 deserves suspicion.

Do not get sold old Hi-MO 5 stock at new-model rates

The most common Longi complaint is not a fake, it is a mix-up. Hi-MO 5 (PERC) and Hi-MO 6 (back-contact) can look similar from a distance, but the codes and the cell surface give it away: Hi-MO 5 codes contain HPH and show busbars on the front; Hi-MO 6 codes contain HTH and show none. The price difference per watt can be significant, so always check the code before agreeing a rate.

The back-contact look is LONGi’s best anti-fake feature: it is much harder to copy a busbar-free cell than to print a new label.

What the table tells you:

• Efficiency is close at 585 W. The TOPCon rivals sit around 22.6 to 22.8%; check the Hi-MO X7 datasheet for its figure. Hi-MO X9 at 600 W gives more output per plate, but costs more per plate.
• Heat performance is level. Longi’s older Hi-MO 6, Jinko and Canadian list -0.29%/°C; JA lists about -0.30%/°C.
• Warranty is where Longi trailed. Hi-MO 6 had 25 years on power against 30 for the TOPCon rivals, so check the card for Hi-MO X7 or Hi-MO X9.
• Looks are where Longi wins. If the panels are visible from the street or a terrace, the all-black front of a back-contact cell looks neater.
• Availability: Jinko is easier to find in every city; Longi is stocked by most larger dealers.

If the 600 W costs about the same per watt, take it: same roof space, more output. If it costs noticeably more per watt, the 585 is the better buy unless your roof is genuinely full.

Longi in Pakistani heat and dust

LONGi’s back-contact Hi-MO 6 had the same -0.29%/°C temperature coefficient as the leading TOPCon panels, so it gave up roughly the same share of output on a 45°C June afternoon. Dust affects every brand alike. A dark, busbar-free front shows dust and bird droppings more clearly, which is actually useful: you can see when the plates need cleaning. Wash with plain water early in the morning, never with hard brushes or detergent on hot glass.

Who should choose Longi: buyers who value the clean look, want the 600 W Hi-MO X9 for a tight roof, or simply prefer not to buy the most counterfeited brand. Who should think twice: anyone for whom the extra five years of power warranty on TOPCon panels matters more than looks.

Where to buy Longi solar panels

LONGi sells in Pakistan through importers, distributors and project partners. For a home system you will usually buy through a dealer or installer.

• Karachi: closest to the port, so dealers often have the widest choice of Longi models and the lowest freight.
• Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan: larger dealers stock Hi-MO X7; Hi-MO X9 may need ordering.
• Through an installer: many installers can source Longi at a fair rate as part of a full system quote.

For shops, small factories and commercial roofs, LONGi’s project experience in Pakistan is a point in its favour. Larger buyers can often get a quote through an EPC contractor that buys directly from a distributor, with a clearer warranty chain than a single-shop purchase. Ask the contractor to name the distributor and to include the module datasheet and warranty document in the proposal, so you can check the model codes before the order is placed.

• Which importer brought in this stock?

2. Scan the QR code on two or three plates in the shop and match the details.
3. Get every serial number on your invoice.

Mixing Longi with other brands

If you add Longi plates to an existing Jinko or JA system, keep them on their own string, ideally on a separate inverter input. Longi plates have different voltage and current figures from Tiger Neo, so mixing the two in one string wastes output from the stronger panels.
